The Europa League 2019/20 season group stage draw was held on Friday 30th in Monaco, France, with the matches set to be played from mid-September.

Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 to lift the title last season, but the Blues will not defend their title as the win served as a ticket to play in the Premier competition; the Champions League.

The Gunners failed to make it to the top tier competition, meaning they will spend a third season in the Europa League, where they will be joined by Manchester United and Wolves.

The final’s date

The finals will be played on 27 May 2020, at the Gdansk Stadium in Poland.

The Gdansk Stadium

The Stadium was opened in 2011 and hosted four games at UEFA EURO 2012 including three group stage fixtures.

It was also the ground where Germany beat Grecce 4-2 in the quarter-final, and is home to Ekstraklasa side Lechia Gdańsk.

The ground has also hosted a number of international friendlies for the Polish national team, even though it has never hosted a UEFA club competition match.

It is located in the city’s Letnica neighbourhood and has a capacity of 43,615 people.

Troubles from last season

There were issues from last season as Chelsea and Arsenal fans failed to travel to Baku for the final match, with many complaining over travel and accommodation issues.

The distance to Azerbaijan was also a major issue, with UEFA coming under heavy criticism for their choice of the ground.

Favourites to reach the finals

Manchester United went all the way under Jose Mourinho to lift the title two seasons ago and will be among clear favourites along last season’s finalsits Arsenal.

PSV, Sevilla, Wolves and Eintracht Frankfurt can also be in the running, without forgetting stronger sides that can drop from the Champions League.
