Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles expectedly Monday crashed out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland after they lost 2-1 to neighbours Senegal.

The team which sneaked Into the Round of 16 as one of the best losers conceded two goals in the first half.

Even though Aniekeme Okon scored what could be regarded as a lifeline in the 50th minute, the team could not build on it.

Senegal dominated the first and made it count with two goals but the Flying Eagles could not make their own second half dominance count as they could not create clear cut chances after the early second half goal.

Coach Paul Aigbogun overhauled the team that finished 4th at the AFOCN U-20 Championship earlier in the year and injected dominantly foreign based players but that did not appear to have solved the problem of lack of fluidity and coordination within the team.

Flying Eagles played four matches in the tournament, won one, lost two and drew one.

With the victory, Senegal have progressed to the quarter-final. Another African representative, Mali will face favourite, Argentina Tuesday to determine if Africa could have two teams in the last eight.
