Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on Tuesday ended a long-time goal drought as he scored in Leicester City’s 4-0 victory over Luton Town in the Carabao Cup.

Iheanacho’s 86th minute goal was the fourth after Demarai Gray, James Justin and Youri Tielemans had set Leicester on the road to victory.

The Nigeria international was introduced in the 71st minute to replace Ayoze Perez, and 15 minutes later, scored his first goal in 29 matches.

The 22-year-old had gone 28 competitive games in a row without finding the net for the Foxes.

Leicester City assistant coach Chris Davies feels it’s great to see Iheanacho back in action and scoring.

“It’s great for Kel, because he’s been outside of the squad, let alone the team, just recently.

“But he’s been working hard in training, the manager has given him an opportunity tonight and he’s come in and he’s not been on the pitch for long but he’s made an impact.

“He’s scored, he’s pressed the game well, he showed a good hunger, a good appetite, and it’s an instinctive finish to chip the goalkeeper.”
