Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel has resumed training with Turkish club Trabzonspor ahead of the new season, Bestchoicesports.com.ng understands.

It is an unfamiliar tarrain for the former Super Eagles captain as just signed with the club in July.

Mikel and Ghana striker Caleb Ekuban, who recently joined the Turkish outfit from Leeds United, both had their successful medicals, and Trabzonspor have now given them the green light for the new season.

In a message on Trabzonspor’s official Instagram handle, the club wrote, “Caleb Ekuban and our new transfer Obi Mikel, who were with their national teams during the AFCON, passed their health check.

“The players who completed their health checks continued their work at Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Facilities within the special training program applied to them.”

The Turkish Super Lig is set to resume on August 18 with Trabzonspor billed to face Kasimpasa in the opening fixture.

Mikel captained the Super Eagles to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where Nigeria won bronze.
