10-Man Rangers Pick First Away Win, Defeat Wolves In Warri

Rangers International Football Club of Enugu today at the Warri Township Stadium defeated her host, Warri Wolves, in Matchday 15 of Nigeria Professional Football League by 2 goals to 1.

Rangers in the first 10 minutes of the play scored the two goals courtesy of Kelvin Itoya and Kenechukwu Agu. Kelvin Itoya is an indegene of Warri and former Warri Wolves player. He could not celebrate the goal having scored his former team. He was given an honour to Captain Rangers team for the match. Itoya’s goal was scored when Nwokeji located Ifeanyi George at left side of the post and Ifeanyi layed the ball to Itoya who placed the ball on top edge of the post.

The second goal from Kenechukwu Agu was a free kick awarded to Rangers outside 18 yard box and was played into the goal post breaking through the walls in 9th minutes of the play.

Warri Wolves after the second goal embraced the challenge and started fighting back. In 21st minutes, Tope Olusesi made a very big save by heading the ball out when pressure was high and Rangers goalkeeper Nana Bonsu had been displaced by Wolves. Charles Atsimune reduced the tide in 39th minutes when Samuel Amadi pulled out the ball from the flank and located Rangers net.

Uche John was replaced by Oladuntoye in 30th minutes as a result of injury. Traore Issif also was replaced by Kehinde Adedipe after Kenechukwu Agu had been sent out in 65th minutes for bad tackle. Seka Pascal also replaced Ifeanyi George at 79th minutes.

Rangers Coach Salisu Yusuf who was happy for his first away win since he joined Rangers described the Warri Wolves as, “a strong team but came late”.

Rangers will on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu by 4pm host Abia Warriors in Eastern deby.
