2020 Nigeria Women Premier League Kicks Off March 18 In Abridged Format

After suffering so much delay, hostilities for the 2020 Nigeria Women Premier League, NWPL will commence on March 18, 2020 even as the league organisers retained the abridged format for the new season, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The decision to play the 2020 NWPL season in abridged format was part of resolutions reached by the management of the league and club owners during the congress held in Edo on Tuesday.
Among other decisions reached were the commencement date of the league which is fixed on March 18 as well as groups and fixtures of the league.
In the groupings made, Group A has 8 teams – Pelican Stars, Nasarawa Amazons, Sunshine Queens, Confluence Queens, Bayelsa Queens, Dream Stars, Abia Angels and Edo Queens.
GROUP B is made up of – Royal Queens, Rivers Angels, Heartland Queens, Osun Babes, Ibom Angels, Adamawa, FC Robo and Delta Queens.
In match Week One Fixtures, scheduled to hold on March 18, 2020, Group A hostilities will see Pelican Stars FC battle Nasarawa Amazons FC at U.J Usuene Stadium, Calabar; Sunshine Queens FC 🆚 Confluence Queens FC (Ondo Sports Complex, Akure) Bayelsa Queens FC 🆚 DreamStars Ladies FC (Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa) and Abia Angels FC 🆚 Edo Queens FC (Umuahia Township Stadium, Umuahia)
In Group B, Rivers Angels FC will face FC Robo Queens at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt; Ibom Angels FC will trade tackles with Heartland FC at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo; Osun Babes FC will entertain Adamawa Queens FC at Osogbo City Stadium, Osogbo while the last match in the group will new comers Royal Queens take on Delta Queens at Warri Township Stadium, Warri.
The commencement date for the 2020 Nigeria Women Premier League is 18th of March and the league is expected to end on the 24th of June 2020.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 4.
