Former Indomitable lions coach, Claude Marie François Le Roy, is facing a six months prison sentence in France, for charges related to the transfer of players deemed fraudulent in the 1990s, while he was manager of French side, Strasbourg, according to Togolese website, Togobreakingnews.Infos.

Claude Le Roy was tried on an appeal case last Thursday in France, and the Strasbourg Advocate General Christophe Mira, requested a suspended prison sentence of six months and a fine of about 25000 euros. The court is expected to deliver its judgement on December 18, 2019.

The case dates back to 1990 when he was manager of the Racing Club Strasbourg. Claude Leroy is accused of having been complicit in the issuance of false invoices issued to allow the British branch of IMG, a company that was the club’s owner at the time, and various intermediaries to receive commissions on player transfer contracts, to the detriment of the accounts of the Racing Club Strasbourg.

At the first appearance in July 2016, the current coach of Les éperviers of Togo was sentenced to 2 years in prison, 18 months of which were suspended. A fine of EUR 15000 was also imposed on him by the Strasbourg Criminal Court.

The 71 year old has enjoyed most of his coaching career in Africa, with two spells at the helm of the Indomitable lions (1985_1988 and 1998), where he ended runners up in 1986 and eventually winning the 1988 AFCON. He has gone on to coach six other African countries, and is presently head coach of Togo.
