The Minister of Youth and sports development, Sunday Dare on Sunday escaped death in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, after angry youths attacked him and the Paramount ruler of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The minister had gone to the ancient city to pay condolence visit to the family of late Jimoh Isiaq who was killed on Saturday by unidentified policeman during the #ENDSARSNOW protest in the area.

Bestchoicesports.com.ng gathered that after paying a visit to the bereaved family, the minister also paid a homage to the paramount ruler but the meeting was disrupted when angry youth who are still sad over the death of their mate attacked the palace.

Although security operatives rescued the minister, the monarch, and other chiefs who were at the meeting, unconfirmed report has it that 8 persons were killed during the police shooting.

It was unclear at the time of this report if the minister was the target by the angry youths .

Confirming the attack on social media, the minister who described the attackers as “hoodlums, thugs, miscreants” said they broke the Soun’s doors, glasses, chairs etc.

He however noted the the “hoodlums” are not students from the area.

“Ogbomoso- Hoodlums, thugs and miscreants disrupt stakeholders meeting in Soun’s palace now -invading, stoning and breaking doors, glasses. Soun, myself, and council chiefs were scurried into safety by the police and Department of State Services.

“The hoodlums broke into the palace and destroyed chairs, overturned tables, broke windows. These were not youth or Students. These were miscreants and thugs who saw a window of opportunity in the protest which (was) since abated. Thankfully, Soun, the chiefs, leaders of Parapo are safe.”

The minister wondered why the Soun’s palace was attacked, saying that peace had been restored.

Dare added, “Ogbomoso youths are law-abiding. But hoodlums have taken over. A combined team of operation Burst from Ibadan and a unit from Iliorin are now on ground in Ogbomoso to help keep the peace, protect the peaceful and innocent and also stop criminal elements. Soun of Ogbomosho yesterday and today personally appealed to this group to stop the violence.”

However, some Nigerians have accused the minister of perjury wondering why he refused to mention the number of person killed by the police during the shootout.

A journalist, Kuti Dare said on Facebook:

“I want to make investigations about the killings in Ogbomosho today. If I find out that the sports minister goofed, I’ll drag him HERE,” he said.

Few minutes later, he stated “The Security Operatives of Sports minister and the officers at the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosho provoked protesters TODAY.

“8 protesting Youths were killed and the minister of sports, Sunday Dare called them hoodlums. #ENDSARSNOW

“Sports minister, Sunday Dare went to Twitter to mislead the public concerning what happened in Ogbomosho.”

Another youth with the name Andrella tweeting on Twitter with @Ogheneyoma said “Police killed 8 persons in Ogbomosho…Let the whole world be aware.”
