Bendel Insurance FC of Benin, Wednesday evening defeated high riding Remo Stars by a lone goal to move up on the Nigeria National League (NNL) Group B2 ladder.

Daniel Johnson scored the only goal of the tension-soaked game from the spot at the 68th minute to deflate the visitors’ high hope of picking a point in Benin.

Remo’s defenders had harshly brought down Insurance fine forward Meyinwa Oritseweyinmi in the box while Sarki’s goal bound header was at the same time held by another Defender’s hand to incur the penalty which brave Daniel neatly converted.  The visitors had escaped similar punishments from hard tackles severally in the barren first half.

The Benin Arsenal who picked a point at Apex Krane on Sunday after a 2-2 draw at Agbor Township Stadium now have ten points, closing the brackets between them and the table toppers who remain on 12 points.

Insurance will be on the road to Akwa Ibom state to continue their search for away maximum points as they face Ibom Youths FC at Ikot Ekpene Stadium on Saturday in one of the NNL Group B2 Week 7 fixtures.

In a post-match interview the head coach of Remo Stars Daniel Ogunmodede who said that his boys did well despite the loss insisted that their target is to win all matches and get promotion.

” In the game of football, you win some and lose some. Insurance prepared to win this one and they won. So, we are going back home to prepare for our next game.

Insurance Assistant coach Greg Ikhenoba while also speaking said that he was happy about the victory but however admitted that the technical crew will continue to work on the team so to take it to the level it ought to be.

“I am happy that we won. The three points are very important. As games come, we continue to see deficiencies and correct them. At times you play beautiful football but you don’t get the desired results. We are grateful to God for this, we now have to strategize for the next game”. He emphasized.
