NPFL Followers Lambast LMC For Using Tribal Language
By Amaechi Agbo
Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL followers have lashed at the League Management Company, LMC which is in charge of the country’s elite league for being tribalistic, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The football enthusiasts lampooned the LMC for using one ethnic language on its Facebook Page and questioned the rational for such in a pluralistic country with over 500 divergent languages.
In a post on Monday afternoon on its official Facebook Page, the LMC said “A new day breaking. Gaskiya!”
However, some followers who do not know the meaning of the word, criticised LMC for being insensitive to the nature and diversity of the country.
Expectedly, the use of Hausa Word, “gaskiya” did not go down well with most of the commentators who questioned the competency of the admin in managing a platform with such diversed audience.
While a section of the commentators asked for the meaning of the word, others asked the LMC to also write in other over 500 languages in the country instead of showing bias to only one region.
Others who appeared less concerned asked to know the date the 2021/2022 NPFL season would commence.
“Next time use the three main languages Oga”, Mfreke Pius Akai said.
Spotless Ugo said “Must it be in Hausa? Shame to Lmc and their Admins”
“Admin are you ready to do this post in 526 languages? The Spanish anthem does not have words just sounds. I love learning languages and their usage but not on a platform with diversity,” Owoidoho Udofia said.
On his part, Nnaa Dum-mene Marvelous sarcastically queried “Since How Many Weeks Now Una Day Never Break Abi?”
Nonso Emejulu asked for translation saying “Translate for us LMC,”
A commentator with the name Oyiza supported the use of the language.
“League Management Company use any language you want biko.
“What’s Gaskiya that you people don’t understand”
“Useless admin, you can’t even keep this page active even in the absence of league games,” Jordan Ikpot commented.
Obasa Bukola reacted differently. “I won’t be quick in judging the admin. For the word ‘gaskiya’ to be used and a cap which is apparently a northern one be put on a football, I will like to believe that there is something new coming forth from that angle.
“Waiting patiently for the new day to break!”
“I expected to see a post concerning the newly promoted teams. A welcome post with their logos on it is not too much, I think,” Waliyullah Tunde Abimbola posted.
Joseph Ikea said “This is Nigeria not a Hausa country alone…..
So use English.” and other comments by the followers.
According the Hausa Dictionary, “Gaskiya” is a noun which means “truth, fact.”
In the post made by the LMC it had a picture with with a football and a Hausa hula on top of it.
The League Management Company chairman, Alhaji Shehu Dikko said in August that the 2021/2022 NPFL season will start in October.
And with the second tier league, the Nigeria National League, NNL being concluded on Sunday and Niger Tornadoes, Gombe United, Shooting Stars and Remo Stars all gaining Promotion back to the NPFL, it is expected that the new season would get underway soon.
