Cameroon and African football legend, Samuel Eto’o has officially made public his bid to run for the post of president during the upcoming 2021 elections in the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT.

In a manifesto made public in on Tuesday, the former Indomitable Lions forward announced he has finally taken the decision to contest for the most prestigious post of football governance in Cameroon after several thoughts.

“I am honored and pleased to announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the Cameroon Football Federation. After careful considerations, I have decided to take this initiative out of love for Cameroon and passion for our football.” The message partly reads.

The former FC Barcelona star in the message insisted there is urgent need for progressive and positive changes to be made to ensure the growth and smooth management of football in the country especially months to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which will be hosted by Cameroon next January and February.

“I stand before you because time is of the essence. It is time to rebuild our football. We can no longer delay revamping our number one sport because the rest of the world is moving on; it is progressing without usIn a few months, our country will host the African Cup of Nations. In addition to welcoming players and supporters from sister African countries as well as journalists and tourists from all over the world, it will equally be an opportunity to present to the world the incredible pool of talent that our country has always been and the strength of our community.” The statement continued.

Samuel Eto’o equally touched on other topical issues including finances which he said will be well managed during his tenure if given the chance to head the structure.
The four time African player of the year award winner and two time AFCON champion with the Indomitable Lions, promised to dedicate the totality of his salary as president of the FA to the development of youth football in Cameroon.

The message released by the onetime Chelsea forward has come a long way to end increasing speculations and rumors on the possibility of the Lions’ all-time lead scorer running for the post of president at FECAFOOT. Eto’o has in numerous occasions, watered down possibilities of contesting.

Rumors of his candidacy has been made more complicated by new developments at the FA which suggests the star forward is ineligible to bid for the prestigious post on nationality issues.

Now confirmed as candidate, Pichichi will be bracing up to face the likes of former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder Geremi Njitap, Lions legend Jules Denis Onana and interim president and friend Seidou Mbombo Njoya for the vacant post of president at the Cameroon Football Federation.Elections are built for November this year.
