The dependable defender who was among the 30 shortlisted Super Eagles players for the June friendly matches against Mexico and Ecuador have been withdrawn.

The defender was fingered in the match-fixing scandal that rocked Ghana’s premier league in July 2021

The unfortunate match was between Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies.

Both Ashanti Gold and Inter Allies were hit with demotion to the third tier and players and officials of both clubs heavily sanctioned.

A fixture between the two sides in September ended 7-0 to Ashanti Gold, with Hashim Musah scoring two own goals as he apparently tried to prevent a pre-arranged 5-1 scoreline.

BSNSports reports that world football governing body, FIFA stepped in since that time and came out with a verdict, demoting the clubs involved and players were well sanctioned and Ali and other players were slammed with a 2-year ban.

Due to his amazing performance for the newly promoted Remo Stars this season Ali was handed an invitation to the Super Eagles for the upcoming International friendly matches against Mexico and Ecuador in June

According to the report coming from the football body in Nigeria, Ali has been dropped from the team after Ghana Football Association communicated the decision to them.

Best Choice Sports can report that players and coaches of the affected teams were handed severe sanctions including two-year ban from football-related activities.

The game was investigated by the GFA, who have found both teams guilty of match manipulation.

As well as both teams being relegated, several club officials and coaches have been banned including Ashanti Gold president Dr Kwaku Frimpong who has been handed a 10-year ban and his son Emmanuel Frimpong, the club’s chief executive, an eight-year ban.

Musah himself was barred for two years but his sanction was reduced to six months for his role in “unravelling” the fixed match.

Four others – the respective head coaches and team managers from both clubs – were all thrown out for two years.

In all, 14 Ashanti Gold players were suspended for between two and four years. As well as Musah, a further 11 Inter Allies players and their goalkeeping coach were banned for between two and three years.
