And while several other individuals including ex Internationals have declared their intentions to contest for the position of president, the former Senior Special Adviser to Kano State Governor said he is buying his time and will take the right and appropriate decision when the situation is ripe.
Speaking in a 4.12 minutes voice note he shared on social media on Friday, Alhaji Gara Gombe who is the consultant to Avadas Football Club and Academy in Morocco, noted that he would study the electoral situation and thanked stakeholders who have continued to mount pressure on him to declare for the position
“Distinguished stakeholders in Nigeria football affairs. I would like to transmit this short audio in response to stories and news from different sources and different stakeholders regarding whether or not I will be contesting the upcoming elections into the Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Association (Federation) particularly the office the president.
“I feel highly honoured and privileged for the calls, responses, messages both privately and openly including from people that I don’t even know, encouraging me to come into the race to contest the elections. No doubt, our football administration needs a total overhaul.
“However, currently I am weighing the options, even though I do not want to go into a competition where the rules are not known to me. As you are all aware, the guidelines for the elections are not yet out, so I don’t see the rush in declaring interest now.
“Though, there are stakeholders who hold the school of thought that there is nothing wrong in declaring while waiting for the rules. In as much as I agree with that school of thought, at the same time, I will like to appeal and thank all for the sustained interest in urging me to contest. I will make my position known shortly. And I will make it very clear in a short while.
“In the meantime, I thank you so much for all the messages. I was really overwhelmed. I never expected it. I didn’t know that people have been following all that I have been saying and doing.
“But I don’t want to believe that I am the only one that can solve the problems. We need all of us to unite and appreciate all others who have shown interest to contest. They personally called and informed me. By the time I am ready, I will do the same. Thank you and God bless Nigeria football
The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday set up Electoral and Appeals Committees for the election slated to hold in Benin City, Edo State on September 30, 2022.
