The South East 4×4 Handball Championship and RIT Referee Training Course will end in Nsukka, Enugu State on Saturday

The competition and training which commenced on 7th will be concluded on 11th July, 2026 at the Nsukka Sports Club Handball Court, GRA Nsukka with handball teams and officials from the South East States participating

The competition marks another landmark achievement in the ongoing drive to reposition handball development in the region

This remarkable initiative is championed by the South East Zonal Representative of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, President of Nsukka Sports Club and Chairman, Enugu State Handball Association, Chief Asogwa Onyebuchi (TM), whose commitment to sports development continues to inspire athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts across the region.

Through his visionary leadership, the South East has continued to witness increased opportunities for talent discovery, capacity building, referee development, and grassroots sports promotion. Hosting this prestigious championship and training programme in Nsukka further demonstrates his determination to make the region a hub for sporting excellence.

The event, organized by the Handball Federation of Nigeria in collaboration with the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Enugu, the South East Handball Zonal Representative, and the National Sports Commission Zone 1, Enugu, attracted participating states, referees, coaches, officials, and handball lovers from across the South East region.

Chief Asogwa deserves commendation for his exceptional passion, strategic leadership, and relentless investment in youth and sports development. His efforts have continued to strengthen the handball ecosystem not just in the region but nationwide while promoting unity, healthy competition, and excellence among young athletes.

The competition and training brings together the best hands and brains in handball management to chart a new oath for the growth of the game I. The zone.

Speaking with journalists recently on the essence of the competition and training of officials, Chief Asogwa highlighted the importance of not just promoting the soviet but also preserving it’s ethics and professionalism as well as discovering the young talents that would manage the game in the future.

“Some years ago, we were not here, today the responsibility of managing the game if handball has been entrusted in our care and we owe humanity, our nation and the South East Zone the obligation to improve the sport beyond what we inherited.

“The 4×4 Championship and Training are taking pace side-by-side such that while we are discovering and nurturing the young talents, the officials and administrators are also kept abreast of the latest development in the game. We want the zone to be the best in handball and that is why we are investing both in the players and the officials. Their welfare is a priority because the zone is talented with handball players and we want to have a pool of the players in the zone,” he said.

The final competition on Saturday will commence from 10am at the Nsukka Sports Club, Enugu State.
