The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, LGAN, has dismissed the fear that the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy, AACT, will be hosted outside the Golf course of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, despite the prolonged closure by the order of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, last year.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, LGAN President Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, who is also the Chairlady, AACT, local Organising Committee, Nigeria 2026, said  Golfers coming to Abuja, Nigeria have been assured of state-of-art facilities at the Nigeria Premier Golf Course.

Supported by two members of the IBB International Golf and Country Club Board of Trustees, Ekanem Ekwueme and Julius Fadairo, LGAN President said the continental championship will enjoy the support of all Government officials both at home and abroad

On the AACT key programmes, which are scheduled to be teed-off on November 2nd to 7th, the Chairlady, Local Organising Committee, AACT 2026, said the week-long activities lined up include arrival, accreditation and practice which will comes up on the first day while Supporters game, Captains/Managers meeting, Flag hoisting and opening ceremony will take the centre stage on the second day.

Other programmes for the remaining days include championship, delegates meeting, prize presentation, flag lowering, and closing Banquet.

  “AACT Nigeria 2026 is designed to showcase Nigeria as a destination for international sports, sports tourism, women and youth development, business and investment, culture and hospitality, as well as continental friendship and cooperation.” She stated.

While announcing 547 million Naira as the proposed budget for hosting the event, Dr Lami said LGAN is mobilizing financial and in-kind support from government institutions, corporate organizations, development partners and individuals in meeting the targets.

She assured the participating countries and their teams that the LOC is engaging relevant government institutions and security agencies to provide coordinated security and logistical arrangements for their participants, officials, and visitors.

“Arrangements are also being coordinated for official transportation, accommodation, medical support, accreditation, protocol, and other operational requirements.” Dr Lami concluded.

About 30 African countries are expected to participate in the week-long championship, with 3 players representing each country.
