Nigeria’s national U-20 team, the Flying Eagles Tuesday defeated South Africa in the football event at the ongoing 12th edition of Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco.
The Paul Aigbogun led lads recorded a 2-1 win over the Amajita of South Africa in the second group match played at FAR Centre in Rabat.
The 36 Lions striker Collin Sor put Nigeria ahead in the 27th minute off an assist from Saeed Jubril.
South Africa levelled scores on the 55th minute through Ofentse Mashiane with a powerful shot, following a superb delivery by Siyanda Msani from a set piece.
After their equalizer, Amajita took over the game from the Nigeria side but the introduction of Makanjuola Success and Chinoso Emeka for Sor and Saeed, respectively, caused more threat for the South Africans.
The duo added more vibe and tenacity and pressure was mounted on the South Africa defence which later caved in following series of onslaught from the Water FC players. Ahmad Ghali netted the winning goal for Nigeria in the 77th minute with an assist from Ibrahim Abubakar.
The victory ensured Nigeria has 4 points from 2 games with last match against host Morocco to come on Thursday.
