Edo Government To Edo Queens: Win Your Last Two Matches Or Be Fired
By Ojieva Ehiosun
Edo State Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu has issued order to Edo Queens management team to win their last two matches in the ongoing Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL, or be sack, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Special Adviser to the Deputy Governor on Sports, Mrs. Sabina Chekere gave this warning at the government House after a two hours meeting with the technical members of the team. She said that government is very angry with Edo Queens FC technical crew for playing a draw with Adamawa Queens football club in Benin.
She said that the deputy governor is not happy with what is happening in Edo Queens, stressing that anything less than a win in the remaining last two league matches would not be accepted by the state.
“I want to say that the Deputy Governor is so disappointed with the performances of our girls in the home game against Adamawa Queens Fc, the second stage of any football league is always very crucial, and such is not something to joke with, so when you have an opportunity to play home, you must put in all your best to ensure victory. For the past few days I have been I under pressure from the Deputy Governor, you all know the position of the state governor in sports, so much money have been spent in ensuring that sports in Edo State regains its premier position in Nigeria. So I want to tell the entire, members of the technical crew that this two remaining games must be won and anything less than victory in these two games would amount to sack of the entire technical team”.
“You know what the state government put into Bendel Insurance Fc. So much was done for Insurance, yet the boys refused to fly. I do not want the same thing to happen to Edo Queens, so we must do everything with our powers to ensure that the team gets the Super Four ticket. If you do not know, your job and my own is on the line, I do not want you people to come and take my job from me because of one trivial ni8ssue or the other, Edo Queens have no reason not to win that last game a home, so if there is any player or coach that has done something wrong, he or she should go and pray for forgiveness.”
“There is no state owned team that is as responsive to what our government is doing, Edo State have never had it so smooth in sports development, so on our own part, we must do our very best to reciprocate the good gesture of the government. I want to sound it loud and clear, win your last two league games or get sack. That is the order from the Deputy Governor.”
“Reacting, the Technical Director of the team Pa. Godwin Izilein, thanked the Deputy Governor for given him and his team the opportunity to serve, adding that he would do everything within his capacity to ensure that the two last league games are won.
“In fact I’m shocked that things are going this way, anybody that watches that game on Wednesday will tell you that Edo Queens played their hearts out, just that the goals just refused to come. Be that as it May, and my coaches will go back to the drawing board and correct the mistakes. Our interest is to play in the Super Four. And possibly win the league. I cannot understand where this hard luck is coming from, but I promised that we would make amends.”
Curiously, Edo Queens are second on their group log with 7 points, one less than the table toppers who have 8 points.
