Eagles Vs Squirrels: When ‘Animals’ Battle For Human Competition
By Amaechi Agbo
Eagles vs Squirrels sounds as a recollection of allegorical fable.
A more soothing epistle could be George Orwell’s Animal Farm, a metaphor for what unity of purpose can achieve.
Over the couple of months, Eagles – a high flying bird in the kite family vs Squirrels, a little rodent that burrows underneath the earth both for food and shelter – are said to face each other, to battle each other in a competition not meant for animals, though.
Ordinarily it is only in Fariytales or moonlight stories that these two animals come together in a meeting that never ends in peace for obvious reasons.
Eagle is a carnivorous bird, it feeds on the flesh of other animals and will not spare anyone that comes it’s way much less one that has the effrontery to challenge it for a duel.
But like the very saying that when you wake up in the morning and see a fowl running after you, you should run because it could be that the fowl grew teeth over night, such cannot be ruled out in Eagles v Squirrels.
What baffles many in the rational behind such battle. 11 Eagles vs 11 Squirrels fighting to take part in a human competition.
The first time and animal kingdom conspired and overthrew humans kingdom was in 1945 when a group of animals led by Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer defeated Mr. Jones in a battle, running him off the land of his farm and renamed the property Animal Farm.
In this battle, Eagles and Squirrels are fighting to know who between them will take part in a human competition, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON holding in Cameroon.
Perhaps, this is not the first time the two ‘animals’ are meeting for a battle of this nature. The Eagles and Squirrels have met 14 times since 1977 with the eagles losing just once to the squirrels, won 11 and drew two matches.
Six out of these matches were friendlies with Eagles recording a 7-0 wins twice.
Whatever be the case, while these two ‘animals’ battles for ham competition in a well-built stadium.in Uyo, Aka Ibom State, the funny thing is that thousands of Nigerians will flog stadium to watch the battle while millions of Nigerians and Benin people will be glued on the telly to watch this duel.
The beauty of the battle remains that irrespective of who are involved, everyone would love to know the outcome of the battle between Eagles and Squirrels at the Goodwill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
