He was a former player of Kano Pillars FC between 2014-2016 where he featured prominently for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles (U-20) team, before joining Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, lasting two seasons there(2016-2018).

In 2017, the pacy attacker moved to Europe for greener pastures, where he trialled with IK Start, a Norwegian football club from the town of Kristiansand that currently plays in 1. Divisjon (the second tier of the Norwegian football league system).

After a failed trial in Norway, Abubakar Lawal returned to Nigeria where he later joined Nasarawa United FC, helping the Lafia-based club to a 4th place finish in Group B at the end of the 2018/2019 abridged Nigerian professional Football League Season.

Kano Pillars of Kano, VVV-Venlo of Holland, current player of Leicester City of England but on loan to CSKA Moscow of Russia, and on a further loan deal to Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Musa(Super Eagles’ player), and that he envisages playing, one day, in one of the best clubs in the world, precisely in the German Bundles-Liga, but of the opinion that Nasarawa United is the pad to launch him to such zenith, pledging to help the Lafia-based club win the Nigerian Professional Football League trophy and other notable trophies there are, domestically and continentally.

With the 2019/2020 Nigerian Professional Football League Season set to kick-off next week Sunday, a vast majority of Nasarawa United’s die-hard fans would be hoping to see Abubakar Lawal at his best scoring form and a contender for the golden boot award.
