Nigeria will take on Algeria in one of the semi-final matches of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday in Egypt.
The final could potentially be an all West African or all North African affair. It could also be a battle between the West and North – Africa’s perennial football power blocs.
Senegal is the only team that has yet to taste AFCON glory in the quartet. Nigeria have won it thrice whiles Algeria and Tunisia have each won it once.
The Super Eagles had booked their place in the last four Wednesday, following a 2-1 win over South Africa.
Thursday evening, Algeria needed penalties to defeat Ivory Coast, after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.
The semi-final will be played at the Cairo International Stadium and kicks off 8pm West African time.
The winner of this tie will face the team that emerges from the Senegal vs Madagascar/Tunisia half of the draw in the final.
Meanwhile Tunisia ended Madagascar’s remarkable Africa Cup of Nations run when they beat the rank outsiders 3-0 in their quarter-final on Thursday, notching their first win of the tournament in the process.
Madagascar, a country with little football tradition and who had not been expected to progress beyond the group stage on their first appearance at the finals, held out until the second half when they were undone by Ferjani Sassi’s deflected shot.
Youssef Msakni added a second on the hour for the Carthage Eagles, ranked 25th in the world against Madagascar’s 107th, and substitute Naim Sliti finished it off on the break in stoppage time to earn them a semi-final against Senegal on Sunday.
Tunisia had drawn their previous four matches at the tournament, beating Ghana on penalties in the last 16.

The final of the 2019 AFCON tournament will be played on July 19.
