All is now set for the commencement of the first edition of Africa Union Sports Council, AUSC Region 2 in Abuja, bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The Young Leaders in Sports Seminar, according the head of the Facilitator Team, will hold from October 23 to 26, 2019 Nicon Luxury.

Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja Monday, Lina Kessy, who is the Interim head of Africa Union Sport Council in Younde Cameroun and the leader of the Facilitator Team which comprises representatives from Kenya and Mauritius, said the purpose of the workshop was to give African youths in the West Africa region leadership direction in sports.

Lina Kessy who noted that the youths in the continent generally are not given their rightful place in sports leadership and administration, added that the AUSC Region is looking at having one participants from the 15 member countries in the West Africa region.

“I am in Abuja to coordinate and facilitate the Young Leaders in Sports Seminar for the Africa Union Sports Council Region 2 which comprises all the countries in West Africa region.

“We are expecting to have up to 25 participants. That means we are expecting one participants each from all the 15 member countries of AUSC Region 2. We are also expecting to see more participants from Nigeria as they are hosting the workshop.

“The workshop will last for four days but it will be very intensive and leaner-centered. It is our expectations that participants who are going to attend must be young leaders in sports working with various sports institutions be it the ministry of sports, the national olympic committee or attached to sports associations in the region.

“Our objective is to build young leaders capacity in Africa sports. We all know that in many of sports institutions in Africa, it is very rare to find young people among the administrators or decision makers.

“If you ask them why such situation, they will tell you that young ones lack capacity and are not trained. So for us, our intention is to make sure that we give young leaders the opportunity to showcase and participate in the development of sports in their countries.

“We all know that sports is mainly participated in by young people but at the same time, they are not leading at all. So we want their voice to be heard, we want them to be represented. We want them to contribute in building sports in their countries,” she said.
