Six months after he led Akwa United to win their first ever Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL title, coach of the side, Kennedy Boboye, have resigned, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

My Boboye’s resignation is not unconnected with poor performances of the team in recent matches including Sunday’s goalless draw against Heartland FC in Uyo.

The shambolic display by the players and the poor result at home were the reason the former Plateau United gaffer tendered his resignation

“I want to thank everybody in Akwa United family for the time I have stayed with the team, but I think it is time to move forward.

“When the team is not doing well, it is the coach that faces the problems. I have just decided to stay out, for the team to move forward.

“Thank (you) very much for the time giving to me to work here” the two-time NPFL winning coach said

In August 2021, Boboye led the Promise Keepers to win their first league title and also qualified for the CAF Champions League.

They however got eliminated in the first round of the continental league and despite their impressive start to the season, they slumped midway winning just 4 matches in 12 games

Boboye replaced John Obibi as Akwa United Coach in December 2019

Akwa United are currently 8th on the NPFL log with 17 points from 12 matches, 8 points behind league leaders, Rivers United.

The Uyo based side will be on the road in the matchday 13 of the league as they confront Remo Stars in Ikenne, Ogun State
