Former players of Akwa United Football clClub have appealed to the State Governor, Emmanuel Udom to fulfil the pledge he made to the players and officials of the club three years ago.

In an SOS call to the League Management Company, the players are appealing to the League body to come to their rescue and prevail on Akwa United and the executive Governor of Akwa Ibom state to pay the N70 million that the state government promised the team after winning the Aiteo cup in 2017.

The players who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that they may have to embark on a peaceful protest to the governor’s office any moment from now to get what is due to them.

“Since 2017 when we won the Aiteo cup, we have not received kobo from the N70 million naira promised to us. We tried everything within internal mechanism to appeal and appease the management to get the money but all our efforts have proved abortive so far”.

“It’s height of injustice to see the reward of our labour been cornered or unjustly delayed by Akwa United management. It’s our entitlements as a result of service render to the club, we are not begging for arms”.
