The President, Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, in a bid to hammer support ahead of March 12 FIFA Council election, on Tuesday visited the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare in Abuja to discuss among other things, his intention to fly Nigeria’s flag in the fast approaching FIFA council election.

The NFF President brought a letter, thanking the Federal Government for all their support and pledged to be a good ambassador of Nigeria if elected into the FIFA Council.

A member of CAF executive committee, Amaju Pinnick is aware of the task ahead and appreciates the Federal govermment for agreeing to support his dream. He used the ocassion the visit to also thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari and all Nigerians for their unflinching support to Nigeria since he emerged President in 2014.

For his part, Mr Sunday Dare reiterated the need for Amaju to use his position and connections in CAF and FIFA to help promote and develop Nigeria and Africa football at all levels. He said he is happy to see Nigerians aspire to be among the very best in the world as that is the only way the country can have a say in the committee of football playing nations.

He personally wished Amaju all the best assuring him that Nigerians will support him with their prayers.

At the moment only one slot is left for the Anglophone speaking nations which is what Amaju Pinnick is vying for.

It will be recalled that only two Nigerians have risen to the exalted position of FIFA Council members before. They are, Dr. Amos Adamu and Oyo Orok Oyo.

Amaju Pinnick has come under criticisms on how he has handled football in the country.

The former Delta State Football Association boss recently lost his position as CAF 1st Vice President.

At home, he is facing backlog of corruption charges in Nigeria courts over maladministration.

Pinnick has also distanced himself from recontesting for the position of the NFF President with election due later in 2022.
