Awaziem Equals Slaven Bilic Goal-scoring Record For Hadjuk Split With 4th Goal Of The Season
By Amaechi Agbo
Super Eagles defender, Chigozie Awaziem has equalled Watford FC Coach, Slaven Bilic’s goal-scoring record as highest scoring defender for Hadjuk Split in Croatia league as his strike on Wednesday brought his goal tally in the season to four
Awaziem was on target for Hajduk Split who beat HNK Gorica 3-1 in the Croatian topflight on Wednesday.
Slaven Bilic since the 1992/1993 season, held the record as the highest scoring defender for the club with four goals in a single campaign in the Croatian top-flight for the Whites.
Awaziem has now found the back of the net four times in 11 league fixtures for Hajduk Split with his three goals coming in the last five games.
The 25 years old scored in the 71st minute to put Hajduk Split 3-1 and maintain their unbeaten streak.
The club are unbeaten in 10 consecutive games – seven wins and three draws – as they remain in second place on 30 points, just five points behind leaders Dinamo Zagreb in the 10-team league table.
Awaziem’s four goals were scored against NK Lokomotiva, HNK Rijeka, NK Varazdin and HNK Gorica.
On loan from Portuguese Boavista for the duration of the season, the Nigerian international still has more than 20 matches to play and if he can consolidate on his scoring prowess, he could surpass the already achieved record.
Awaziem and his side, Hajduk Split will return to action on Sunday as they keep a date with Lokomotiva Zagreb.
