The players of Benin Republic have been promised the sum of $30, 000 each to pick the remaining ticket in Group L of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

The Squirrels, as the team are nicknamed, have qualified on four different occasions – 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2019.

In 2019, they reached the knockouts as the third most successful third placed team, before making the quarter-finals with a shock win over Morocco, but later lost to Senegal.

Each Benin player will receive a bonus of $30,000 if they stop hosts Sierra Leone tomorrow and qualify for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, officials said.

Benin need at least a draw in Freetown against hosts Sierra Leone to go through to the tournament proper.

This knife-edge Group L qualifier was earlier moved to Conakry, Guinea, after the stadium in Freetown was banned, but CAF have since rescinded this decision.
