Media Officer of the Rivers United, Charles Mayuku who confirmed the development on Friday said that the four players and three officials are still being held five days after their first leg in Dar es Salaam.

He noted the players and officials are being held despite testing negative to Covid-19.

“5 days after Rivers United’s away victory over Young Africans of Tanzania, 4 players and 3 officials still held back in Dar es Salaam even after testing negative to covid-19 rapid testing as PCR test results continue to delay,” he said

It could be recalled that 5 Rivers United players and officials reportedly tested positive to Covid19 less than two hours to game their game on Sunday.

“In a fresh and embarrassing twist to African football once again, with less than two hours to kick off in the game between Young Africans and Rivers United in the 1st leg preliminary round of the Total CAF Champions League, three players and two officials of Rivers United have tested positive to Covid 19.

“The Pride of Rivers had all tested negative to the virus from a test carried out on Thursday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which offer the team safe passage into Tanzania,” Rivers United had said in a release.

While Rivers United frowned at the antics of Yanga, the club ordered a fresh Covid 19 test to be carried on the affected players and officials before kick off at 5pm local time on Sunday
