The confederation of Africa Football CAF, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF and former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh Sunday paid tribute to former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi on his fourth year remembrance, Bestchoicesports.com.ng reports.

 CAF in its Twitter handle described late kasha who died on June 7, 2026 as “captain Fantastic” adding that the former captain became the second person to win the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON as a player in 1994 and a coach in 2013.

CAF noted that the late Big Boss captained the Nigeria national team to its maiden World Cup Appearance in USA 1994.

“Today (June 7) we remember Captain Fantastic, Stephen Keshi, who left our world on this sad day 4 years ago

“In 2013 Keshi became the second person to win the #TotalAFCON title as player (1994) and coach, when he led @NGSuperEagles to their third trophy in South Africa.

“Keshi captained Nigeria’s golden generation of 1994 that included the likes of Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi, Jay-Jay Okocha and others, as they reached the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history in USA, and won the #TotalAFCON title in Tunisia same year” CAF said.

On its part the NFF said they miss the late Big Boss and asked him to continue to rest in the Lord’s bosom.

“Today we remember former @NGSuperEagles captain and coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi. Big Boss we miss you, continue to rest in the Lord’s bosom. #WeRememberKeshi”

Also a former captain and coach of the three-time AFCON champions, Sunday Oliseh said that on June 7 four years ago, the continent lost one of its greatest legend noting that late Keshi qualified two nations in Africa to two world Cups including Nigeria and Tog.

He described the late Delat State born player/coach who took the Super Eagles to Round of 16 finish at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil as an exceptional leader.  

“4 years ago today, we lost 1 of Africa’s greatest legends, Stephen Keshi. AFCON winning captain player & coach, qualified Togo & Nigeria to world cups, 2nd round 2014 world cup coach & an exceptional leader. Let’s celebrate this great man. “Coachitto Skippo” we miss you. R.I.P big bro!”

Keshi was born on January 23, 1962 in Azare, Bauchi State. He hailed from Illah in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State and was of Igbo descent.

After losing his wife, Keshi had a heart attack and died en route to hospital on 7 June 2016 in Benin City, aged 54
