Bayelsa Queens coach Domo Okara has said that their Group B final match against Wadi Degla FC in the ongoing 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League on Sunday would be a difficult one but expressed optimism that the Nigerian champions would navigate the hurdle.

Coach Okara who spoke after his ladies defeated TP Mazembe 2-0 on Friday to revive their semi-final hope, said everything team participating in the champions league is a difficult opponent.

“For Wadi, we know that they are very tactically sound and they will be a difficult team too. We will give our best to record a good result.

“Every team that came to this tournament are champion from their region or national league. Every team is difficult,” said.

The Nigerian side had made their debut on a losing note after a 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns but they bounced back with a victory over their Central African counterparts to keep their semi-final hopes alive at Grand Stade de Marrakech.

First half goals from Miracle Joseph and Chinyere Igbomalu were enough to elicit winning smiles off the face of the manager, who boasted his tactics worked against the Congolese side.

“I’m a very happy man now because the game went my way as we won,” Okara told CAFOnline.com.

“If we did not win this match, we would have gone home. I know they are a very tough and physical side so we prepared very well for them. I’ll say our tactics worked for us.

“After the first defeat, we changed our tactics and we watched the Congolese team we watched them very well and we saw their No. 10 [Mervielle Kanjinga] and No. 7 [Naomie Kabakaba] that they would be a task to us.

Following the triumph, the WAFU-B champions got their campaign back on track and the manager assures they will leave no stone unturned in clinic their passage to the semifinals.

Sunday’s match is a must-win for the Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL champions. A draw could send them out of the league if 3rd placed TP Mazembe win against defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
