In a show of solidarity, Nigerian fans of former English Premier League champions, Chelsea Football Club has joined millions of Nigerians both at home and in diaspora to protest against police brutality, impunity, maiming and killing of Nigerian youths, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

Nigerians are currently engulfed in a massive protest nationally and globally over reckless killing of the youths of the country by a police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The protest came up again after the SARS killed a young Nigeria in Ogun State in July on the excuse that he has tattoos on his body.

Nigeria’s leading celebrities and activists have organized mass protests across major cities in the country Friday demanding an end to police brutality in the country.

The nationwide protests were a culmination of weeks of anger and outcry online by the country’s young people over claims of kidnapping, harassment and extortion by a police unit known as the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

On Thursday, a protest was led in Lagos Island by Folarin Falana, a lawyer and singer, and Runtown, an artist known by that stage name.

They were also joined by Nigeria’s biggest female performer, Tiwa Savage.

Chinedu Obi was murdered by the police whom the police personnel accosted for having tattoos on his body, was protesting his arrest when the men of the Sango Area Command gunned him down on Friday, July 19, 2019.

The musician, who was still alive after being shot, was accused of destroying the windscreens of over 17 vehicles parked on the premises of the area command while protesting his arrest.

Footage making the rounds on social media showed the Delta State indigene lying in a pool of blood as he requested to contact his parents, but the people who gathered around him, instead of taking him to hospital for treatment, were condemning him for destroying the vehicle windscreens.

Chelsea Nigeria Fans joined the Nigerians in calling for an end to SARS and other police brutality.

In a tweet on its Twitter handle, Chelsea said “We join Nigerian Youths in saying NO to Police Brutality. #EndSars #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSarsNow,” the club said.

Many Nigerian players such as Mikel Obi, Celestine Babayaro, Victor Moses have played for the London based club.
