Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has vowed to bounce back from injury he suffered at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ighalo who won the 2019 AFCON Golden Boot Award in Egypt after netting five times in the tournament, suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s AFCON 2019 third place match after scoring the only goal that earned Nigeria the bronze medal.

The 30-year-old said he has overcome many difficult situations in the past and this will be one of them.

“Of course it was a big blow to me, but everyone who know me know that I’ve already had to overcome many difficult situations in my life.” Ighalo told Sports Extra.

“I’ve always been a fighter and I will master this challenge, too.

“I’m so unlucky to have got the same injury and especially this period that my team (Shanghai Shenhua) needs me, I feel so sorry for the fans that I will be missing some games but I will work hard to be back to end the season very well.”

Ighalo emerged the top scorer at the AFCON 2019 with five goals and was named in the tournament best 11.
