Nigeria’s only female Olympic Gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa-Opara has called on the global sports family to show love as coronavirus ravages the sporting sector, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

The first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event made the call on Thursday amidst increasing spread of the virus in the world.

Majority of the population of the world has been locked down following the outbreak of the virus in China late 2019

Global sporting activities have been drastically affected with the most recent tournament, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, suffering a year postponement early this week.

Major football leagues in the world have been halted with other sports such as tennis, boxing, wrestling, athletics, among others earlier scheduled to hold this year suffering similar fate.

In a release signed by his media manager on Thursday, the 1996 Atlanta Olympics long jump gold medalist called for show of love as the virus does not recognise personality nor class differences adding that observing personal hygiene and prayer remains the solution to the pandemic

“This is indeed a time to show love not only to those we know but to those that we may not have known before now but reasonably need our help.

“However now that coronavirus has humbled every being, both old and young, rich and poor. It is imperative at this time that we remain united, share and show love to all. The global world has stood still and the most unifying sector in human life – sports – have been the most hit by the virus.
“At a time like this, we are all encouraged to obey our leaders and remain indoor pending when the situation changes.

“Expectedly, it will not be an easy moment, but in the long run, Nigerians and indeed the global community will be a better place. “May the good Lord grant us the giving heart to remember the needy around us in Jesus name, amen. God is the only way, pray always.”
