Acting head coach of the Super Falcons, Christopher Danjuma has in a surprise move, appointed Asisat Oshoala as the new captain of the team, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The announcement of the new change in the leadership of the team was made known to the players after yesterday’s evening training who were momentarily shocked by the sudden change before they were asked to clap.

The acting head coach of the side, Christopher Danjuma who broke the news to the team did not explain why Desire Oparanozie was being dethroned as the Falcons captain, the her erstwhile deputy now replacing her

However, Best Choice Sports  had earlier reported that the exclusion of the then captain, Desire Oparanozie from the last two matches against Algeria as well as the upcoming two Olympic qualifiers against Cote’d’Voire has raised a lot of dust over the relationship between the team handlers and some senior players in the squad.

In a two minutes video posted on its official Twitter handle @thenff, coach Danjunma said “…and I know that with the crop of good players we have here, there is an experience of having played in Algeria, the away encounter, I am sure as you can see them, everybody is ready and wants us to go, by the grace of God, get it done there in Cote’d’Voire so that when we come home, it is a done deal.

“In the view of that, the leadership of the Super Falcons is here by changed. Leadership in the sense of the captain. Asisat Oshoala will now be your captain. As for the assistant captain, I think that one will be dealt with in time to come. And I know very well, every one of you is a seasoned player and that is why you are in the Super Falcons. The most important thing is to remain focused in Nigeria’s mission to make sure that Nigeria after 12 years, is in the Olympics. Thank you very much,” the coach told the shell shocked players.

Chris Danjuma last month led the U-20 Falconts to win gold at the 12th edition of Africa Games and was drafted in as acting coach of the side following the resignation of the former coach, Thomas Dennerby. Mr Dennerby left the team citing interference in his work by some officials from the NFF.

No reason was given on the change of the captaincy of the team

Meanwhile, the minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has waded into the crisis between the NFF and Thomas Dennerby with a view to solving whatever is amiss amicably.
