Former Super Falcons player, Coach Mary Godspower was full of praise over the weekend when her young academy ladies, Folsa Academy female team squared up against Waco Babes, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The match played at the Fosla Academy field Karshi last week was a cynosure of all eyes as the young ladies held their own against the highly fancied Waco Babes.

The match which came after the Fosla ladies played their first competitive match against Loyola Jesuit College ladies and triumphed 3-0 was intended to expose the players after months of training and years of study

It was a highly intense and tactical game that saw the Fosla ladies giving no respect to their opponents.

Buoyed their win previously, Fosla ladies played with no respect to their opponents and were never intimidated by their shortcomings in terms of highlight and physique two domineering traits inherent in their opponents.

Speaking after the match, Coach Godspower praised her girls for putting up a commanding show and improving from their first match.

Mrs Godspower who is a CAF and FIFA licenced coach however advised the young ladies not to be carried away by their performances in the two games as they are still in the formative and building stage.

“It was a great match by the players and I commend them. I will not single out a player because football is a collective game. The players put in their best and that was why we had the result we got.

“Of course considering the exposure of our opponents, nobody gave us a chance and you heard their coach also confirm that my girls were the better team. However that is not to take anything for granted.

“This is the second match the team is playing. It has been training for the past few months and the management decided that time is ripe for them to start playing matches. They have played two matches, won one and lost one but I am not bothered by the score-line.

“This is a formative stage. The players came from different parts of the country and they needed time to actually understand what football is before they are exposed to matches. So far in the two matches they played against Loyola and Waco Babes, I commend them.

“But As I told them after the match, they should not be carried away by their performances. There are greater work to be done and we will keep improving,” she said.

Speaking after the match, coach of Waco Babes, Ozioma described the match as a good game but gave credit to the Fosla ladies and rated them far above his team.

“It was a great game but I rate them above my team. This is their first match if I am not mistaken but they played a good football. They are just coming up, so they have a great future ahead of them.

“I will advise the players to remain disciplined and obey their coaches. I will not also fail to commend my friend Coach Mary for doing a great job with the ladies. It is marvellous. Their brand of football will make them a great team in future,” he said.

Speaking for her team, Fosla captain, Janet Bawa said even though they lost the match by alone goal which was scored after a moment of scrabble in the first half, noted that playing against Waco Babes was a huge experience the players will not forget. Adding that the matches would motivate them and help them going forward

“I feel bitter that we lost the match but I am happy because the matches we have played so far are helping us to feel along.

“We did not fear them. We played our game and we did our best unfortunately that was not enough for us. In every match their must be a winner.

“Playing against Waco Babes is a huge game and motivation. With this game, we now have an idea how it looks like to play teams bigger than us. It has given us the experience, we now know how to attack and play those that are bigger than us,” she concluded.
