CONFIRMED: Enyimba Battle Rivers United In CAF Confederation Cup

There will be a battle of titans as two Nigeria Clubs Enyimba International FC of Aba and Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, will clash in the second round of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report
Rivers United set up the mouthwatering encounter after they decimated Bloemfontein Celtic of South Africa 5-0 on aggregate to set up a date with the two-time winners of the CAF Champions League.
Rivers United on Saturday defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 3-0 in Port Novo, Benin Republic in the return leg of the first round of the competition.
Rivers United midfielder marshal, Godwin Aguda scored a brace in the 1 minute and 45+4 minute to give the host a 2 -0 lead in the break.
Fortune Omoniwari scored the third goal in the 49 minute to wrap up and commanding display.
The return leg was initially scheduled to hold on January 6, 2021 but following Nigeria Government’s refusal to grant the South African waiver of not isolating when they arrived the country. Consequently, CAF rescheduled the match and moved it to a neutral venue in Benin Republic
The Port Harcourt-based side in December last year recorded a 2-0 away win against their host in South Africa
On their part, the People’s Elephant were demoted to the Confederation Cup after they lost 4-2 on aggregate against Al Merrikh of Sudan in the last preliminary round of the Champions League.
Enyimba, had in December last year lost 3-0 to their Sudanese opponents and needed at least a 4-0 win to scale the hurddle.
Although they won the return leg 2-1but it was too little to take them through to the group stage.
The People’s Elephant will host the Pride of Rivers in the first leg in Aba on 14th February, while the reverse fixture takes place a week later in Port Harcourt on February 21, 2021.
The aggregate winner of the two-leg battle will qualify for the money spilling group stage of the competition.
