Douglas Jnr. Undergoes Successful Surgery, Grandfather Calls For NFF Help

The only son and child of former Flying Eagles player, Douglas Uzama, Douglas Jnr. have had a successful surgical operation at Stella Obasanjo Hospital Benin Friday, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

However, despite the successful operation, the grandfather of the child has sent a save-our-soul call to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick to come to the aid of the family and help defray the accumulated medical bills of his grandson.

The grandfather is asking the football federation to pay the accumulated match bonuses and camp allowances they owed his son prior to his untimely death.

The General Secretary of National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers, NANPF, Austin popo, who was in Benin to attend to the Burial ceremony of late Wilson Oboh on Friday got an emergency call from the grandfather of Douglas Uzama junior over the child’s deplorable heath situation.

Douglas Uzama played for Gombe United FC and national under 20 team before he was brutally murdered by unknown persons in Benin 26th December, 2016.

According to Adewale Ajayi, a seasoned journalist, who have vowed to ensure that all needed financial requirements are made available to save the child, “The son, abandoned by his mother to his grand parents after the death of his father, has been going through some health challenges that culminated in an operation at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital Benin today Friday which the General Secretary was summoned to witness.

“Prior to this time the family through the union has made series of appeal to the NFF to pay late Uzama Douglas, monies owed him as former player in under 20, the sum of N400, 000, and USD 4000 as match bonus and camp allowance which has not yielded any positive result.

“It can be recalled the union had made several visits to Uzama family in Benin, including the President of the union Tijani Babaginda immediately after his election in DEC. 2018. The union had made some donations to the family each time they come visiting. From the information gotten from the union, the General Secretary confirmed that the last discussion he had with the NFF president on this issue, was response that the NFF does not have money. Today’s visit the General Secretary was accompanied by the union Director of operations, David Agbiovo .

“The father is appealing to the conscience of the NFF president to do the needful, to enable them buy drugs and take care of bills from the operations. He also called for assistance from kind hearted individuals to come to the aid of the family as he is not finding it easy to foot the medical bills alone in order to save the child’s life,” he said
