Egypt To Unveil New Coach On Wednesday
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced Monday that they will unveil the name of Egypt’s national football coach on Wednesday to succeed Mexican coach Javier Aguirre who was axed after a humiliating exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the round of 16.
“We will know the name of the national team coach on Wednesday if all goes as normal, ” EFA spokesman Osama Ismail told a television programme.
“We are looking at six to seven names to choose one of them as (EFA interim head) Amr El-Ganainy said before,” Ismail added.
“All the candidates are Egyptian, it’s settled.” the EFA spokesman concluded.
Aguirre was dismissed right after Egypt bowed out of the AFCON tournament during the last-16 stage on home soil after conceding a late goal to lose 1-0 to South Africa earlier this month.
Former Pharaohs coach Hassan Shehata, former Ahly coach Hossam El-Badri, Egypt’s all-time top scorer Hossam Hassan, Maqassa boss Mido, and Masry manager Ihab Galal are in the running to occupy the hot seat.
