Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala has said that women’s football in Africa has more pressing issues to tackle than calling for equal pay.

Women’s football player earn far less than their men counterpart globally.

At the end of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, US captain Megan Rapinoe called out FIFA, demanding for equal pay for female and male footballers.

But Oshoala is of the opinion that there are structurer issues Africa needs to deal with than asking for equal pay at the moment.

“It is a good thing that this demand caught FIFA’s attention, but really, in Africa we have other pressing issues to deal with in our football.

“We need to deal with our structures, facilities, and loads of issues before talking about equal pay. I prefer we rather focus on problems affecting female football in Africa first.” She told Punch.

Oshoala was part of the Super Falcons squad to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup where Nigeria crashed out in the Round of 16 after losing to host France.
