Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndịdị and Kelechi Iheanacho including Nigerian born Ademola Lookman were all bundled out of the Europa League after they lost to Napoli with the club, Leicester City in the last Group C match on Thursday and demoted to Europa Conference League, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Leicester travelled to Naples knowing they would guarantee a top-two finish in Group C if they could avoid defeat.
However, among the three Nigerian-Leicester City players, only Wilfred Ndịdị travelled with the team to Naples and saw 90 minutes of action as the Foxes fumbled.
Kelechi Iheanacho as well as Ademola Lookman did not travel with the team for the final group match.
The two were not pictured in the Foxes training ahead of the match with report saying the duo are among the Leicester City players who were forced to stay at home following a bout of Covid and illness in the club’s ranks.
Leicester City headed into the fixture top of Group C with eight points, one more than Spartak Moscow and Napoli, and two ahead of bottom team Legia Warsaw.
However, Napoli without their potent striker, Victor Osimhen who is recuperating from facial surgery, defeated the EPL side to move second on the log.
Victor Moses, former Super Eagles winger who is reported to be on his way back to the Eagles, played all 90 minutes as his side, Sparta Moscow defeated Legia Warszawa away 0-1 in the same Group C to top the table.
Brendan Rodgers said he does not “even know” what the Europa Conference League is after his Leicester side were demoted to the competition following their 3-2 Europa League defeat at Napoli.
“I’ve got to be honest I don’t even know what the competition is,” Rodgers told BT Sport.
“I was focused on the Europa League and winning this group and at the very least finishing second. But I am sure I will find out soon enough.”
