We gathered that the League Management Company, LMC made the proposal for the new season to commence on November 21.

However, a competent source told our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday that the date is subject to the approval of the Club Owners Association of Nigeria, COAN

According the source who craved confidentiality, he noted that the Club Owners will meet before the 21st November to deliberate on the date proposed by the LMC.

He added that the association will consider logistics and other factors concerning the proposed date but stated that should the league not start on the 21st of November, first week of December becomes the second alternative date.

“The League Management Company proposed 21st November for the commencement of the 2021/2022 NPFL season.

“It was a welcomed development because Nigerians are anxious to see the new season started. However, the Club Owners will meet before the date to consider the proposal.

“A lot of things will be considered concerning the proposed date including logistics by clubs. But if the 21st is not feasible, first week of December will be the alternative date,” he said.

He gave assurance that the league will start this year.

“For sure, the season will commence December. First week, latest.”

The Club Owners Association of Nigeria is the umbrella body of the 20 clubs participating in the Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL)
