Favour Ndubuisi, Nafisat Ibrahim Emerge Champions Of N-YSA Youths Taekwondo Competition

Two young taekwondoists, Favour Ndubuisi and Nafisat Ibrahim on Saturday emerged champions of male and female categories of the N-YSA Youth Taekwondo Competition in Abuja, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The duo emerged winners at the male and female cadet competitions held at the Nigeria Tulip International College, NITC Wuse, Abuja.

Favour, representing Abia State was undefeated in the round robin compettion on his way to clinching the gold in the -68KG of the male category.

Aliyu Salisu of Yobe State Won silver while Aliyu Idris of Kano and Agada Ofuowoicho Solomon from Benue State went home with the bronze.

Nafisat Ibrahim Won gold in female category

In the female category, Nafisat Ibrahim, representing Lagos, won gold in the -52KG; Mukaoso Itunanya Obiefuna from FCT won silver while Mildred Monday from Nasarawa State and Mishael Olalerie from Kaduna State won bronze.

Thw gold medal winners were rewarded with N25, 000; silver winners – N15, 000 while bronze winners went home with N7, 000 cash prizes.

A total of 12 athletes drawn from 10 states across the 6 geopolitical zones took part in the one day event.

36 matches were played in all with the gold medalists playing a minimum of 6 matches to emerge champions.

Speaking after the competition, the coordinator and 2008 Beijing Olympic bronze medal winner in taekwondo, Chika Chukwumerije expressed gratitude to Nigeria Tulip International College, NITC, the coaches, media and stakholdeds for theor support in the event
