FCT To Host National Sports Festival Athletes On August 19

The federal capital territory is set to host the athletes who represented the state capital at the last National Sports Festival held in Edo State
Acting Director of sports, Luka Istifanus said the Minister of FCT Mohammed Bello has fixed August 19th 2021 as the date for recognizing the deserving athletes who have done the capital proud.
‘This is a further confirmation of the interest that has been shown by honourable minister in protecting the interest of youth in FCT and ensuring that enabling environment is provided for youth to thrive’
“On two occasions, the FCT have given lands to athletes, officials who won laurels at the National Sports Festival. The 19th edition of the sports festival hosted in Abuja, FCT, in September, the FCT appreciated those who won medals.
“Athletes who won gold in single event got N300, 000 while team sports got N150, 000. Silver medallist in individual events were given N200, 000 while team event that won silver got N100, 000.
“Individual athletes who won bronze got N100, 000 while bronze medallists in team events were given N50, 000.
“The athletes and officials appreciated the gesture were very delighted when they got the money.
“I want to believe that something bigger will be given to them this year. Our recommendation for this year’s edition is far more than what was given last year,” he said.
Team FCT ended the biannual competition with their heads up as the athletes showed strength and excelled with a total of 37 medals consisting of six gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze medals to finish 15th on the final medals table.
