Global Football governing body FIFA and Confederation of Africa Football, CAF have reacted to the “unexpected” 4-4 scorelines the Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in the Matchday 3 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Nigeria Friday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, squandered a 4-0 lead and allowed the Sierra Leonears to level scores in the second half.
A brace from Everton attacker, Alex Iwobi and one goal each from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze gave the Gernot Rohr lads what looked like unassailable lead in the 40 minutes of the encounter.
However, despite going into the break 4-1, the three-time AFCON champions capitulated in the second half and allowed the visitors to go home with a point.
Reacting to the scorelines, FIFA described it as “Incredible!” adding that it was a day to remember for the Sierra Leone guys.
“Incredible! It’s a day to remember for Sierra Leonean football as the Leone Stars come from 4 goals down to draw 4-4 with Nigeria in CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifying,” FIFA said in a tweet
On it’s part, CAF referred to the outcome of the match as a surprise come back saying on it’s Twitter handle,
“🇳🇬 Nigeria 4-4 Sierra Leone 🇸🇱
“A surprise comeback from Sierra Leone ends the match in a draw.”
The Super Eagles will head to Freetown on Tuesday for the return leg of the match.
