Flying Eagles Defeat Godosky FC In Africa Games Warm Up Match

Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles this morning defeated a Nationwide League One side, Godosky FC International from Anambra State by 2-1 in a warm up match ahead of their Africa Games football event in Morocco which commences on Friday next week.
Saeed Jibril scored the curtain raiser when he beat the Godosky FC defence to slot in the first goal in the 10th minute of the encounter.
But Godosky FC levelled scores immediately after the resumption of the second half with the goal coming in via corner kick in the 47th minute.
The visiting team coached by Owojori Kenny put up spirited effort to kill the game but Saeed had the final say as he slotted in his second and last goal of the day in 77th minute after rave of the moment player, Success Makanjuola teed him up via a through pass.
Speaking to Best Choice Sports after the match, Coach Kenny said he was impressed with the performance of his lads despite the scoreline adding that the exposure is what matters and not the scoreline.
He added that given the mistakes the team made, the result could have been different.
“I am proud of the team and happy over their performance despite the scoreline. The friendly is part of the management’s desire to expose the players. It is also an avenue for us to assess our weaknesses and improve on them.
“This match is important to us in all angle – it will serve as a confidence building for the team; it is also a barometer for us to measure our shortcomings and work on them. It is also a test of character because when we were one goal down, the guys did not lose steam. So we are proud of the team and the outcome of the match
“We don’t celebrate failure but in this case we are proud of the team. The team is a work in progress and if we continue to play this way, we will have a stake in the Nationwide League One when it starts.”
Coach Kenny also commended the Flying Eagles for their performance and expressed optimism that they will do Nigeria proud in Morocco.
“Flying Eagles are a good brand but we gave them a run for their money. From what I saw in the field, they are a good side. Nigerians will have confidence in them. I trust coach Aigbogun to improve on them too and they will make a go at Morocco,” he said.
