Flying Eagles Faces High-flying Gambia In U-20 AFCON Semi-final

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will battle The Gambia in the semi-final of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt.

Both teams will tango in the last four after overcoming their respective quarter-final hurdles.

While Nigeria piped Uganda 1-0 on Thursday courtesy of an own goal by Ibrahim Juma in the 30th minute to secure their last four spot, the Gambia annihilated debutants, South Sudan 5-0 on Friday to book their semi-final ticket

The Gambians have remained unbeaten with 100% in the tournament winning all their Group C matches without conceding a goal, scoring 9 goals en route semi-final

They defeated Tunisia 1-0 in their opening game, won Zambia 2-0 in their second match while their third match against Benin ended 1-0 in their favour.

A hat-trick from Adama Bojang (7th, 33rd, 47th minutes) and goals from Moses Jarju (28th minute) and Mahmudu Bajo (70th minute), earned Gambia the comfortable win against South Sudan at the Haras El Hodoud Stadium, Alexandria

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began the tournament on a losing note after recording 1-0 defeat against Senegal before they piped host Egypt 1-0 and set aside Mozambique 2-0 in their final Group B match.

Sports enthusiants are worried that the Gambians pose a great threat to the Flying Eagles who have been very uncoordinated in the midfield as well as lacking poise and clinical finishing in front of goals.

The Gambians are coming into the on the back of scoring 9 goals in four matches without conceding. However, while Eagles goalkeeping department and defence remain solid, the attacking front lacks bite.

The semi-final match will hold on Monday, March 6 inside the Cairo International Stadium, Cairo
