Former Chelsea Star Luiz set for Arsenal Departure
Former Chelsea and Brazilian defender David Luiz is set for Arsenal exit barely a seasons after his arrival from the Blues rivals.
Luiz is out of contract next month and according to Sky Sports, and there have not been any negotiations over a new deal by Arsenal. It had been reported by a section of the UK tabloids that the player had signed a two-year deal when he arrived but Sky has revealed that the initial agreement was just on a 12 months deal.
The reports claim that Arsenal wants to get rid of some of their highest earners and will restrict spending in the summer due to a possible lack of Champions League football and the effects of coronavirus to the team.
The news comes just days after the defender admitted that he would like to end his career with former club Benfica; a club he featured for between 2007 and 2011.”I always said that I would like to end my career at Benfica.
I love Benfica. My dream is to step on the pitch of Estadio da Luz in their colours,” Luiz told SporTv earlier in the month. Luiz is however said to have informed his friends that he wants to stay in London with the player being a key figure since Mikel Arteta took over the reins of the team.Despite having seven central defenders at his disposal, Arteta has picked Luiz for 15 of the 16 games he’s managed to date.
