Former Flying Eagles Goalkeeper Matthew Yakubu Shines In Slovakian League

Former Nigerian U-20 glovesman, Matthew Yakubu is relishing his recent form for his Slovakian top-division club, SFK Sered, after helping the team to a 2-1 victory over Dukla Banska Bystrica on Friday, 5th June, 2020.
Speaking in an exclusve interview with Eche Amos during the weekend, the former Clique Sports Academy of Lagos goalkeeper said he loves his current form and is working hardly to maintain the momentum.
According to Matthew,”It feels great and comfortable being in action and playing for my team.
“There was no much pressure because what was on my mind was victory, and I said to myself that we have to go all out there and win, and I am glad we won”, he began.
The 21-year-old safe hands who featured for the silver-winning Nigeria U-20 football team at the 2019 Africa Games in Morocco, however, rated his performance in his club’s last victory as close to excellent.
“I think I did well, because after the game, the coaches spoke to me, and repeatedly patted me on the back. So, I think I was outstanding because our opponents were very tough from the blast of the whistle.”
Baring his mind on the effects of the global Coronavirus pandemic on sporting activities, the young goalkeeper said at first he was scared but now happy to see league football return again.
“It wasn’t easy, I must say, because we stayed without football for almost two months. At first, some of my teammates were scared that the league might be cancelled, but the good news is that we are back in the field.
The goalkeeper who is nicknamed “Siasia” added that he remained positive and focused on the game, revealing that his target is to win more games and maintaining the streak.
Matthew Yakubu who signed a three-year deal with his Slovakian Club revealed that his desire was to keep for the Super of Nigeria and best club in the world some day, saying he grew up to love former Nigerian goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, but has been compared to Ajax Amsterdam and Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana, by fans of his current Slovakian Club, adding he is working hard to surpass the records of the Ajax Amsterdam’s goal tender in the nearest future.
