Gara Gombe Gives Condition On Supporting Amaju Pinnick’s CAF Presidency

As speculations continue to mount on whether or not President of Nigeria football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick will contest for the Presidency of Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, former Gombe State Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Gara Gombe has given explanation on why he would support Pinnick should he eventually declares his interest to vie for the position, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Mr Gomne who was also a former Special Adviser to Kano State Government on sports said he will support Amaju Pinnick’s ambition to become CAF president if he contests for the most highly rated position in African football because he is a Nigerian.
Gara Gombe who made this known on Monday morning on radio sports programme in Lagos, Sports Salsa, anchored by the President, Africa International Sports Press Association (AIPS), Mitchell Obi, said he is not interested in contesting for the seat but he will give 100% support to any Nigerian contesting for the post.
“I am not interested in contesting for CAF Presidency for now but if any competent Nigerian is contesting, why not? I will support him to try our luck once again.
“Yes, of course, we can back Amaju Pinnick in becoming CAF president. He is a Nigerian and needs our support.
“When we come back home, we can punch ourselves but when we are dealing with outside world, we have to unite as Nigerians and support whoever is contesting for the position if he can do the job.” He concluded.
CAF had announced 24th November, 2020 as the deadline date for the submission of forms for the CAF Presidency.
Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick had on several fora revealed his ambition to contest for the CAF Presidency. Pinnick was the First Vice-president to the incumbent, Ahmad Ahmad before he was removed.
In the meantime CAF incumbent President, Ahmad Ahmad is yet to declare whether he will contest for the second term in office.
