Gernot Rohr Appointed New Coach Of Benin Republic National Team

Former Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr has been appointed as the new coach of Benin Republic national team, the Squirrels

The decision to name Rohr as the new coach was arrived at during Tuesday’s Executive Committee meeting of the Benin Football Federation in Porto Novo.

It is the first appointment the German coach is receiving after being sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF in December 2021 after series of poor results.

Benin is the 5th African nation Rohr is handling after Gabon, Niger Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

Reports from the West Africa nation indicate that the 69 years old German gaffer will resume duty on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Rohr’s immediate assignment will be to qualify the Squirrels for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Ivory Coast. His first match is the tournament qualifier against Rwanda on March 20

Since losing Nigeria’s job in December 2021, Rohr travelled to Qatar 2022 World Cup where he featured as a pundit during the tournament.
