The Handball Federation of Nigeria, HFN and the FCT Football Association, have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the management and staff of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, over the death of the head of sports unit of the agency, DCC Sunday Joseph on Tuesday.

HFN President, Mr. Samuel Ocheho in his message expressed expressed shock over the sudden death of DCC Sunday Joseph.

Sunday Joseph nicknamed Bobo Ghana, who was the Head of Sports at the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), died earlier on Tuesday after weeks of ill health.

HFN President, who described the late FRSC official as a perfect gentleman as well as his contributed to growth of handball in Nigeria, said his death is a big loss to the handball family.

“I am still in shock. This is a big shock and a big loss to the handball family. We can’t believe he is gone.

“On behalf of Handball Federation of Nigeria I commiserate with his family, FRSC and the entire handball family” Ocheho concluded in a statement released by media department of the federation.

Until his death, Sunday Joseph was a member of the Niger Handball team during his active playing days in the 80’s and 90’s.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Football Association, FCT FA, Adam Muktar Mohammed has described the death of DCC Sunday Josph as shocking adding that the Tuesday, September 3^rd he died remains a ‘black Tuesday.’

Muktar in his condolence message released by the FA media department, described late Sunday Joseph as a versatile sports administrator and lamented the departure of the FRSC head of sports, who he noted was a former footballer, coach, referee and handball player. He therefore sympathised with the agency, relatives and family of late Sunday Joseph and prayed God to grant them the grace to bear the huge loss.

Late Sunday Joseph was the officer in charge of the Road Safety Football Club who reached the playoff of the 2018/19 Nigeria National League, NNL stage.

 ‘Bobo Gana’ as he is fondly called in sports circle, was also a footballer who later became referee and coach during his active days in the game.

Mr Mukhtar in the message prayed that God Almighty to give his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and described the day he died a black Tuesday following the announcement of Joseph’s death.

Late Sunday was appointed head of sports for the FRSC last year (2018) a position he held until his death. Sunday Joseph was a prominent member of the Mega Veterans Handball Club.
